Follow me on my journey of applying to graduate school. If you have any advice, encouragement, or thoughts, feel free to post it! I greatly appreciate the help!
A bit of background to set up the context of this blog. I grew up in the Seattle area with a deep fascination of whales, marine mammals, fish, and animal life in general. Check out the excellent picture. It's one of my favorites. :)
When I decided to go to college, I didn't think I was interested in science anymore, so I picked a small private school in Portland, OR to study youth ministry. After a summer of camp, I figured out I didn't love youth ministry as much as I thought I would, and I really felt that that career was meant for people who have a heart for all aspects of the job. So I bounced around to other majors, including history, humanities, and briefly back to "undecided." Who was I kidding? I really was UNDECIDED!
In my sophomore year, I sat down to some deep self-exploration and discovery. Turns out... I still loved science and I ended up changing my major to biology. I fully attribute this to my amazing science faculty at Concordia. Seriously, I've never met people so invested in education and the pursuit of goals. I started the biology major in my junior year, and really never looked back.
After I graduated, I took the position of academic advisor at Concordia in the science department to help other students figure out their life journey. Or... I helped organize the department. Or.... I got job experience. Basically I got to spend 2 more years with people that I loved in a department that I adored, doing something that I was good at.
This past May, I made a tough choice to leave my job, and I moved back up to Seattle. And that's where I am now! Living in Bellevue (right outside Seattle), working at Starbucks, and pursuing grad school.
Wish me luck!
